American Art Therapy Association (AATA):

The American Art Therapy Association, Inc. is an organization of professionals dedicated to the belief that making art is healing and life enhancing. Its mission is to serve its members and the general public by providing standards of professional competence, and developing and promoting knowledge in, and of, the field of art therapy (AATA, 2008). Mission Statement:
Art therapy in the service of the individual, the professional, the student, and the patient for insight, growth, and development in the state of New York.

Purpose:
The NYATA, Inc. functions to unify art therapist in New York State, conducting presentations and workshops. We further enrich each other as clinicians through meetings, networking, and discussion. NYATA provides communication between our region and The American Art Therapy Association, and we adhere to the AATA Code of Ethics. NYATA promotes the art therapy profession through legislative activity, public relations, education, research, and maintenance of professional excellence.

Most states in the US have an affiliate chapter of AATA.  The purposes differ slightly but in general chapter members gather to share information on the newest practices, laws, clinical techniques and to continue art therapy education through presentations and online seminars.
