Pi Sigma Alpha was founded at the University of Texas
as a national honor society in 1920, fulfilling a long-standing need
of political science students and faculty members for an organization
that would bring persons interested in the study of government and
politics into closer association with each other for their mutual
benefit.
Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor
Societies, representing the field of Political Science within the
Association. Members of Pi Sigma Alpha can be found in the highest
ranks of American government, including presidents, senators,
representatives, and Supreme Court justices. Members of Pi Sigma
Alpha can also be found in state and local government, academia, the
legal profession, journalism, and business.
Hofstra's Political Science Department houses the Eta Pi chapter
of Pi Sigma Alpha. Seniors and juniors with outstanding academic
records, and who show promise in the field of political science, are
selected in the spring semester for initiation into the society.
