MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

BallPolitical Science Courses:
27 Semester Hours

Majors must take the following specific courses:

  • PSC 1 (American Politics)
  • PSC 2 (Comparative Politics)
  • PSC 135 (International Politics)
  • PSC 142 (Western Political Theory)
    or PSC 143 (Ideas in Conflict)

BallCognate Courses: 18 Semester Hours

Six courses in at least four of the following departments: Anthropology, Economics, History, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology

Majors must take : Economics 1 or Economics 7

ballGraduating seniors must take a comprehensive examination administered by the Department.

Please remember that all political science courses applied towards the political science major must be completed with a grade of C- or higher. Any political science courses for which you receive a grade lower than C- will have to be substituted for by additional political science courses in which you receive at least C-.

All Political Science majors are candidates for the B.A. degree, and as such must satisfy the liberal arts requirements for Hofstra College, which include:
UNIVERSITY LIBERAL ARTS REQUIREMENTS

BallCore Courses in the Humanities:
nine semester hours

BallCore Courses in the Natural Sciences/Math :
nine semester hours

BallCore Courses in Social Sciences:
nine semester hours

BallCore Cross-Cultural Course:
three semester hours

BallEnglish Proficiency Test

BallCompletion of Level 4 in a foreign language or satisfactory alternative

 

Please note that neither Core Courses nor courses taken for the major can be taken on a Pass/D/Fail basis.
