Bio:

Dr. Kristin Weingartner is an Assistant Professor of Psychology, with primary responsibilities in the B.A. program. She received her PhD degree in cognitive psychology from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2004. Then, in 2006, she completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Dr. Weingartner's teaching interests are in the areas of cognitive psychology, research methods, and the psychology of language.

Her research interests are in the general area of reading comprehension. In addition to being able to contribute to theories of text processing, one feature that draws Dr. Weingartner's interest to this area of research is that it can be used as a vehicle to investigate other cognitive processes. These include processes related to language processing more generally, as well as memory, attention, perception, reasoning, and decision-making. One goal of Dr. Weingartner's research program is to make contributions to theories of reading comprehension, in part to understand the extent to which the underlying mechanisms generalize across other areas of cognition.

Dr. Weingartner has published her findings in journals such as Discourse Processes, Memory & Cognition, and the Journal of Memory & Language. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Psychonomic Society (associate member), and the Society for Text & Discourse.
