Events

One of the most critical problems of the 21st Century is the increasing exposure of children to complex catastrophic events. Most casualties of war and natural disaster are children. Children die of starvation and treatable diseases every minute, every second, of every day. In rich nations as well as poor, child abuse is at epidemic levels and threatens the emotional health, physical well-being, and intellectual development of hundreds of millions of children. The mistreatment of children is a worldwide pandemic. For millions of children life is over before it begins.
Given the dire circumstances worldwide in which children are expected to live their lives, it could be argued that the greatest advance human beings could make in the 21st century is how to ensure the survival of their children. Achieving this goal will necessitate the dissolution of racial and ethnic divides, the crossing of national and cultural borders, and the mending of religious and political rifts. Scientists in every field, discipline and paradigm will need to work together with physicians, politicians, business leaders and philanthropists. The International Center for Everybody’s Child will work in a similar way to Doctors Without Borders across the divides and rifts to support the health, well being and educational opportunities of every child.
