Language Placement Exams

Who is eligible?

• Students who have taken a language in high school or who are heritage speakers are eligible to take the language placement exam.
• Students who have college credit for a language (not studied through their high school) do not need to take the placement exam as they will be placed in the next level of their transferred language credits.
• Transfer students who need to take the placement test online must contact Associate Dean Jennifer Boscarino-Green (516) 463-7222 Room 107 Student Center.
• Students, who have taken the language placement exam at Hofstra University and wish to retake it, need to wait 18 months after their first placement exam. If students need to retake the exam before 18 months have passed, they must provide written permission from the language Department Chair authorizing them to retake the test. Please contact either Comparative Literature and Languages Department (RLL) at 516-463-5434 Calkins Hall, room 322 or Romance Literature and Languages Department (CLL) at 516-463-5140 Calkins Hall, room 338.

To schedule a placement exam in any of the languages shown above, please call the Language Learning Center at (516) 463-5653. We are located in Calkins Hall, room 207. The LLC is open Monday through Friday.
