Reading, Writing And Learning Clinic
Session 1 - July 6 - 17
Session 2 - July 20 - 31
Session 3 - August 3 - 14
The Reading, Writing and Learning Clinic is a great way for students to stay focused on academics during the summer recess. Instructors use a wide array of instructional strategies and activities to meet students’ learning needs. Elementary school children receive instruction in basic subjects (reading, writing and arithmetic). The older campers’ course of study emphasizes pre-algebra, geometric concepts and reading skills needed to participate successfully in various school subjects. All youngsters are exposed to the skill or subject area deemed most beneficial to help them reach their academic potential. This summer program is the perfect compromise between summer school and summer camp. Your child’s skills are reinforced for half the day, while the rest of the day is spent swimming in our Olympic-sized pool, playing sports and having fun. Previous skills and levels achieved during the regular school year are not lost because of the summer vacation. Instructors are experts in their fields, selected for their warm and caring personalities. We recommend a visit to your child’s teacher to discuss the Hofstra University Specialty Day Camp program, as the teacher may wish to recommend areas to reinforce. New York state ELA and Math examination preparation is also offered as part of our Mathematics/Reading program. Students of all ages are prepared to meet the challenges within the framework of the curriculum for the New York State Learning Standards. Test formats are reviewed and previous tests modeled. Give your child the opportunity to begin a new school year with the self-confidence to reach his or her maximum potential.
Note:
There is a $40 surcharge per two-week session for additional materials and staff requirements.
Open to girls and boys entering grades 2 through 9.
Schedule:
Half the day consists of reading, writing and learning. For the other half of the day, your child is placed in a recreation group of 8-10 campers in of the same grade and gender where all campers enjoy lunch, instructional swim and recreational sports.
