A public meeting to consider Nassau County's 200 special tax districts was co-sponsored by the Center for Suburban Studies and was held at the John Crawford Adams Theater. Over 400 people attended, including elected officials, representatives from the various local tax agencies, civic leaders and interested residents.
The conference agenda and goals were presented by Comptroller Howard S. Weitzman and a talk about tackling the property taxes one step at a time was delivered by Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi. The following three panels followed:

The conference objective was to sponsor a nonpartisan effort by Nassau's top elected officials to raise public awareness and inspire further research on the more than 200 special districts in Nassau County and their impact on taxpayers.
Further meetings with the leadership of the water, fire and sanitation districts are planned to continue the dialogue about realistic cost-savings opportunities.
