What Does This Mean To Me?

We recognize that transfer students, after finishing a year or two at another institution, are eager to focus on a major at Hofstra University.  To make this transition easier, we give new transfer students greater flexibility in fulfilling their general education requirements--Hofstra's "Distribution"--with coursework from their prior institution.  For example, any 3 or more credit transfer science class will fulfill the "Natural Science" distribution category, and any 3 or more credit transfer Psychology class will fulfill the "Behavior Social Science" distribution category.  Hence, it is possible for a transfer student bringing in one or more years of transfer credit to fulfill most or all general education distribution requirements before starting their first semester at Hofstra.
