Know Me Know My Name, A Youth Leadership
Institute: Students Helping Students
Co-Sponsored by The Center for Secondary School Administrators
Students in grades 9 and 10 will have an opportunity to speak out and be heard on issues facing young people, issues not usually covered in the classroom, but inextricably linked to academic success. The Institute is designed to provide a forum for student voices to be heard, and for action plans to be developed that will promote access and equity for all students.
AIDS Education/Prevention Conference
Co-Sponsored with the Nassau County HIV Commission Prevention Committee
Hofstra University has sponsored the Heart ÿ BEATS Conference since 2001. Teen peer educators plan workshops on HIV and health related issues affecting young people. Free HIV screening is available to the University community.
Long Island Gay & Lesbian Youth: 13th Annual Conference
Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth, Inc. (LIGALY) provides youth, K-12 and university staff and administrators, youth counselors, and health care professionals the opportunity to learn about the broad range of issues affecting GLBT youth
Winter
Student Athlete Leadership Conference
The purpose of this conference is to celebrate, support, and encourage positive student leadership throughout Nassau County. Student team leaders will have the chance to meet their counterparts from other high schools and to share ideas about the meaning and significance of leadership. The day will include keynote addresses, focused dialogue between student leaders, coaches, athletic directors and principals, and training on communication skills. Each school will be asked to plan and initiate at least one activity that will have a positive impact on their school community.
Spring
Long Island Leadership Conference
This conference gives Long Island student leaders a special opportunity to participate in small group workshops, listen to distinguished motivational speakers and actively engage in conversations that allow them to exchange ideas. There is also an advisor workshop for student council and student government advisors who wish to take their student group to the next level.
Senior Year Network Student Work Conference
Co-Sponsored by the Nassau Community High School Principal's Association
and the Hofstra University Center For Secondary School Administrators and Supervisors
and Nassau Boces Department of Career and Technical Education
This conference featuring high school seniors, is for high school administrators, teachers, parents and students. Students present their internships, research papers, service learning, and creative projects. A Senior Project Exhibition/Fair will take place after the presentations.
