Jill Reinholt, an Honors College student from Pennsylvania, came to Hofstra University because of its proximity to New York City and because of the feeling she got when she first stepped foot on campus. "I did some surveys online, and Hofstra kept showing up, so I visited it - and I loved it. It was by far the most welcoming university."

In Jill's opinion, Hofstra has lived up to its promise. "The friends I've met, the professors I've had, the administrators, everyone has just been great. Even the people in the cafeteria and the maintenance workers have been friendly," she said.

As a first-year Honors College student, Jill was enrolled in Culture & Expression, a series of multidisciplinary courses designed to explore the connections among disciplines. "It was definitely a good experience," she said. "I've learned so much and I've developed an appreciation for the work we did. We started with Gilgamesh and are just now doing the Communist Manifesto."

When asked what she considered to be Hofstra's greatest strength, she responded, "The professors-and how accessible they are." "I've been amazed by the professors here," she continued, "I came in with the expectation that they would be more interested in their research, that students wouldn't be their number one priority. But that hasn't been the case. They're right there with us and they're willing to help."

"Our Honors College deans - Dean Frisina and Associate Dean Donahue, are phenomenal," she said. "They're great for the program. They'll talk to you about anything."

Jill, a marketing major, will be in the sophomore business cluster next year. Three business courses taken simultaneously, the business cluster gives students the opportunity to work closely with and establish friendships with other business students. "It's the first year they're offering it," she said, "and I'm really excited about it."

Jill's experience with the Admission Office as a high school student was so positive that she volunteered to work in Admission her first year. "They were so welcoming. It was the most personal attention that I had received. I wanted to give other people the feeling that I had initially," she remarked.

Jill plans to be a resident assistant next year and to join the Hofstra American Marketing Association. She also wants to look into internships, "to find out what's out there. That's the most important thing to me now," she said.
