Crystal Cohen
Broadcast Journalism Major

"I chose Hofstra because it was in a suburban area, but close to urban Manhattan, which for my major is the land of opportunity. I also chose Hofstra because of all the cultural diversity. Having class with students from different ethnicities and backgrounds provides for great discussions and debates in class." Crystal conceded, "I was [initially] indecisive about attending Hofstra, but after sitting in on a class with the Hofstra Up Close program, I was able to see the teaching style of the professors. I knew I would excel in the classes here because they are interactive and challenging."
Looking back, she said, "Since beginning here, I can honestly say I've built up a wonderful rapport with the majority of my professors. They will be a great resource in a couple of years when I am looking to enter the workforce." Crystal hopes to pursue a career in broadcasting, and her extracurricular activities reflect that goal.
"In the past two years," she said, "I have gotten involved with the University in various ways. I am an announcer and an engineer for 88.7FM WRHU Radio Hofstra University. And I'm trying to be as involved as possible with "TNL – Thursday Nite Live," one of the many TV shows done on campus."
What's been Crystal's biggest challenge at Hofstra? "Learning how to be effective at time management - balancing my schedule for classes, work, family, friends and extracurriculars."
