The focus of all colleges is passing knowledge from one generation to the next. Yet the ways colleges do this vary greatly. When selecting a college, pay attention to how individual colleges teach their students, and be sure that the colleges to which you apply teach students the way you want to be taught.
Hofstra places excellence in teaching above all else. All our classes are taught by members of the faculty, not teaching assistants. With a student-faculty ratio of 14-to-1, you can be assured that you will receive the guidance and personal attention you need.
As a college student, you will want to learn from experts whose work is recognized in their fields. Ninety percent of our full-time faculty hold the highest degrees in their fields. These scholar-teachers are also Emmy Award and Pulitzer Prize winners, Guggenheim Fellows and business leaders, and they’re writing the textbooks used in classrooms across the nation.
Hofstra’s friendly, receptive environment will allow you to build relationships with teachers who can become your mentors. Their guidance on courses – and later on internships, graduate school and career direction – can help you choose the path that’s right for you.
