Events

Learning at college has as much to do with your classmates as it does with your professors.
Almost everyone who has gone to college can recall two events: the first is a moment in class or late at night when the person’s view of the world has suddenly broadened. The second is meeting someone who knew more about music (or politics or football) than he or she did. Meeting students who come from different backgrounds, as well as those who share your passions, is part of the experience most students seek.
Hofstra has a diverse student body. Our students come from a variety of geographic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. About 47 percent of our first-year students come from outside New York state, including 34 U.S. states and territories and 21 different countries. More than 20 percent of our students, including 18 percent of first-year students are from African-American, Hispanic and Asian or Pacific Islander backgrounds.
A great deal of your learning at Hofstra will come from expanding your horizons, by interacting with others who come from cultures and experiences different from your own. This interaction is particularly important in today’s global economy.
With scores of clubs, organizations, fraternities and sororities, as well as 17 Division I athletic teams, Hofstra offers something for everyone. You can pursue your professional interests and make valuable connections in the Accounting Society, Association for Women in Communications, Danceworks, the Hofstra Marketing Association, the Hofstra Pre-Law Society, and the Radio and Television News Directors Association. And that’s just a small sample of our student activities and organizations.
You can also attend a broad spectrum of events that occur year round on the Hofstra campus — from entertaining theater and concert performances to intellectually stimulating lectures and conferences.
