Technology at Hofstra

Classrooms that work for you

On Hofstra's campus, there are over 80 technology-enhanced classrooms and computer labs. These facilities are designed to enable faculty to use multimedia technology in their courses, engage students in collaborative learning, encourage interpersonal communication, and provide access to the Internet and the University’s electronic resources.

Most notably, Hofstra's C.V. Starr Hall was the first classroom facility on Long Island to completely integrate technology into all of the classrooms and public spaces. This building contains 15 collaborative, lecture, and parliamentary style classrooms with integrated technologies and instructor stations with Sympodium interactive monitors. Students with laptops can access the Internet from every seat in every classroom, as well as the public areas throughout the building. There are nine classrooms with computers for students to use as part of lectures and group projects.

The Academic Trading Room, a classroom serving the Frank. G. Zarb School of Business gives Hofstra faculty and students the ability to access and analyze a vast array of financial and economic data, apply analytical methods, conduct interactive trading simulations and develop contemporary financial models using Bloomberg, CRSP and Compustat databases.

Hagedorn Hall, home to the School of Education and Allied Human Services, is our newest state-of-the-art facility. The building contains 19 classrooms and seminar rooms, including two videoconferencing rooms, one computer lab, a network of counseling observation rooms, and a flexible classroom that can be configured to accommodate 30, 60, or 90 students. Every classroom has an integrated audio-visual system and computerdriven instructor station with an interactive whiteboard. This facility provides flexible learning spaces, wireless access throughout all the classrooms and public areas, and mobile laptop computer workstations.

The Language Learning Center (LLC), located in Calkins Hall, provides a variety of opportunities and resources to students learning world languages and English as a Second Language (ESL). The LLC provides seamless intranet and Internet access to audio and video language resources in Arabic, Chinese, ESL, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swahili. Internet connectivity to the LLC is available for students around the clock both on campus and through the My.Hofstra.edu Portal.
