An integrated system of library resources

Whether you use one of our five campus locations or work from your own desk, the Hofstra University library system is available to you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Many of our resources are available to you online. You can use our electronic library from any location via the Internet, providing access to 130 aggregated databases, 26,000 e-books and 30,000 full-text electronic journals. You can also use our online catalog to check selection availability from the Internet.

The newly renovated Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library is an 11-story building that houses the circulating book and journal collections, the Harold E. Yuker Reference Library, the John W. Wydler Government Documents Depository, and the Business Development Center. The libraries contain approximately 1.4 million volumes and more than 4,000 print journals.


  • Axinn Library has wireless service throughout the building, as well as a 24-hour study room, a computer lab with 95 workstations and a café.
  • Two popular online resources are The New York Times Historical Archive and ARTstor—high-resolution images of paintings, sculpture, photographs, architecture and archaeology.
  • NAXOS Music Library is an online collection of recorded music in streaming media.
  • Book Review Index Online contains 5 million reviews of 2 million books published in academic journals.
  • The Film & Media Library contains more than 7,000 films in DVD and VHS.
  • XReferplus accesses more than 200 reference books online.

The Barbara and Maurice A. Deane Law Library collection contains approximately 534,000 print and microform volumes and extensive electronic resources. Its holdings include statutes, codes and case law for all state and federal jurisdictions; a comprehensive collection of English language legal periodicals; treatises; encyclopedias; digests; citators; looseleaf services; comparative and international legal materials; and selected foreign legal materials. The Deane Law Library offers:


  • A completely wireless facility with two fully networked computer labs with 36 workstations in each lab.
  • More than 120 public access network ports.
  • Online search of other libraries and databases.
  • Lexus, Westlaw and more than 35 legal research databases.

In addition to these two libraries, the Hofstra University Libraries house collections in three other locations on campus, including the Curriculum Materials Center in Hagedorn Hall, the Film & Media Library in Memorial Hall, and the West Campus Library on Fulton Avenue, which holds the Rare Books, and Manuscripts and the University Archives.
