Students seeking a college education with new perspectives, new directions, new choices and new experiences should take a closer look at New College.
At New College, students are part of a close-knit community with small classes and enriched advisement. The New College program offers an intellectually challenging curriculum that enables you to prepare for your future. Innovative scheduling, a commitment to learning in and out of the classroom, and individualized B.A. programs make New College the place where students can earn a liberal arts degree that meets their needs and goals.
New College offers four Bachelor of Arts degrees: humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and creative arts. In consultation with their adviser, students design their concentration in two related areas that are of the most interest to them rather than accumulating credits in a single field toward a B.A., as is usually the case. New College allows students to select courses they would like to take and to map out their own academic path.
Possibilities concentrations include: ancient literature and philosophy, anthropology and drama, economics and history, fine arts and marketing, molecular biology and business, sociology and art, and theater and politics.
Innovative Scheduling
The difference between New College and other schools begins right away. In students' first year at New College, they follow a block course schedule. They take one four-credit course at a time, sequentially, for 3 1/2 weeks, for a total of four courses each semester. This allows students the opportunity to explore one topic in depth from a number of different perspectives.
Experiential Learning
New College recognizes the value of hands-on experience, in and out of the classroom. In addition to lectures, a typical day might include debates, presentations, and group or individual projects. All New College degrees also require supervised internships and/or study abroad at accredited institutions.

Through New College students have the opportunity to earn academic credit by participating in internships across the United States. Students can also accrue credits by studying abroad and/or pursuing internships in foreign cities.
New College offers special study abroad programs, including the European Odyssey, Italian Odyssey and Mexican Odyssey, in which students travel with Hofstra University professors who teach classes that combine course work with visits to the historical sites and cultures they are studying.
