Recognition and Awards

Each year, the Alumni Organization presents alumni awards for professional achievements, and volunteer services.  To nominate your candidate, please click on the Nomination Form link below.  The deadline is November 30, 2009, for consideration for the 2010 Alumni Awards.

Annual awards, and recognized achievements and/or service, are presented in the following categories:
  • Alumnus of the Year is presented by Hofstra University and the Alumni Organization in recognition of exemplary career achievement and/or distinguished service to the University. Of more than 115,000 alumni worldwide, only 49 alumni have been honored with this distinction.   • Award for Alumni Achievement is given to those Hofstra alumni who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields of endeavor and/or demonstrated outstanding service to the University. Only 268 out of more than 115,000 Hofstra alumni have received this award. Award recipients are recognized at the annual Alumni Awards Dinner in the fall. 2009 Alumni Achievement Award Recipients are:  James K. Donaghy '90, Kathryn V.   • Young Alumnus Award was first presented in 1995 by the Hofstra Alumni Organization. It is awarded to alumni who, within 10 years of graduation from the University, have significant accomplishments in their professional life or rendered distinguished service to their alma mater. This award is bestowed in the fall at the annual Alumni Awards Dinner. 2009 Young Alumni Award Recipients are:  Carlton B.   • Honorary Alumnus Award is given in recognition of outstanding service to Hofstra University or the Alumni Organization. First awarded in 1977, only 54 special friends of Hofstra have been welcomed into the alumni family.   • Marjorie and James M. Shuart Alumni Family Award recognizes a family of two or more alumni who have shown outstanding dedication and service to Hofstra including, but not limited to, Alumni Activity, Donor Activity and Hofstra Volunteerism. This award is given in honor of President Emeritus James M. Shuart '53 and his wife, Marjorie Shuart '60.  
  • Veteran of the Year is given to an alumnus who has a history of dedication to the university and the Veterans Alumni Chapter. One should have a commendable service record in the U.S. Armed Forces, have exemplary citizenship in his/her community and have obtained outstanding achievement in his/her respective profession or field of work.
