Recognition and Awards

Each year, the Alumni Organization presents alumni awards for professional achievements, and volunteer services:

• Alumnus of the Year is presented by Hofstra University and the Alumni Organization in recognition of exemplary career achievement and/or distinguished service to the University. Of more than 120,000 alumni worldwide, only 50 alumni have been honored with this distinction. It is presented at the annual Alumni Awards Dinner in the fall. The 2012 award recipient is: Stephen E. Dunn '62.
• Award for Alumni Achievement is given to those Hofstra alumni who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields of endeavor and/or demonstrated outstanding service to the University. Only 278 out of more than 120,000 Hofstra alumni have received this award. Award recipients are recognized at the annual Alumni Awards Dinner in the fall. The 2012 award recipients are: David A. Crichlow, Esq. '85, Michele Medaglia '93, James Metzger '83, Darra Pace, Ed.D. '97, '00 and Jill Maura Rabin, M.D. '75.
• Young Alumnus Award was first presented in 1996 by the Hofstra Alumni Organization. It is awarded to alumni who, within 10 years of graduation from the University, have significant accomplishments in their professional lives or rendered distinguished service to their alma mater. This award is bestowed in the fall at the annual Alumni Awards Dinner. The 2012 award recipient is: Cara Castronuova '04.
• Honorary Alumnus Award is given in recognition of outstanding service to Hofstra University or the Alumni Organization. First awarded in 1977, only 56 special friends of Hofstra have been welcomed into the alumni family. This award is also presented at the annual Alumni Awards Dinner in the fall. The 2012 award recipient is: Vincent Polimeni.
