Hofstra CAAN
Career Alumni Advisor Network

Alumnus talking to student
Focus, Reflect, Discover, Connect

Hofstra CAAN is a program designed for alumni volunteers to educate and advise students in their pursuit of specific career paths. Your life experiences, career histories, and willingness to advise students are all you need to be involved!

Since its inception in 2000, more than 700 alumni have become part of this rewarding program. After close to seven years of wonderful leadership from the Office of Alumni Relations, the CAAN program, as of the summer of 2006, will now be managed by The Hofstra Career Center.

The Career Center is busily planning for this transition and is already preparing for some exciting enhancements to the program. Specifically, some of you may note that in order to place more emphasis on your role as an alumni advisor, the program name has been changed to the Career Alumni Advisor Network (CAAN). Additionally, alumni volunteers will now be called "advisors" not mentors as was previously used.

Additionally, we are planning on allowing the "matches" between the students and you, the advisor, to happen online. Currently, The Career Center utilizes a software program called the Pride-Career Management System, which connects students and alumni to jobs, internships, job fair information, letters of recommendation and more. This same system can also be used for matching alumni volunteers to students. We will be spending the next several months working on all of the details to make sure this technology is easy to use and efficient. Once we are ready to "go live" with CAAN, The Career Center will update this page with registration instructions.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact Suzanne Dagger, associate director of The Career Center, with any questions at (516) 463-6060 or send an e-mail.
