Dr. Lawrence Grossman '49, who passed away in January 2006, was a biochemist and pioneer in the field of DNA repair. He was World War II combat veteran and former chairman of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at what is now the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. According to his obituary in the Washington Post, it was his service in the Navy and seeing loss of life first hand that inspired him to go into the health sciences.
James "Milton" Morahan Sr. '62, who passed away in April 2006, played lacrosse as a Hofstra student and was a member of the Hofstra Pride Club. He was a principal at the Skano and Arongen Elementary Schools in Clifton Park, NY, between 1974 and 1988. He also worked at the Woodford Elementary School in Woodford, VT, for 10 years as an administrator and educator.
