Alpha Theta Beta alumnae have enjoyed many wonderful events in recent months. Sisters attended a festive annual dinner in

May at Viva Loco in Bellmore, New York, with one sister traveling from Florida to attend. A few days later, sisters from the 1950s through the 1990s attended Hofstra's Alumni Annual Meeting and Reunion Dinner Dance. In June we met in New York City for a cocktail hour at Dewey's Flatiron Tavern. Sisters from New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island were in attendance. Thanks to Elaine Kravetz '93 and Maureen Peters '90 for coordinating this event.

We are awarding our $1,000 AOB scholarship to undergraduate sister Jessica Haraguchi. We thank everyone who contributes to our AOB scholarship fund. We have met with our undergraduate sisters a number of times this year. It's great to share our history and common bonds that transcend the ages!

We're looking forward to many events, including: All-Greek Reunion at Homecoming (October 4 to 7); AOB in NYC (November 2007); AOB's Annual Meeting and Birthday Celebration (November 16 at Hofstra); our Holiday Dinner (January 4, 2008); AOB Through the Years (February 2008); and the Annual Dinner (May 2008). Check our mailings and Web site, www.alphathetabeta.org, for specific dates and times, and don't forget to sign the guest book.

On April 28 the Hofstra University Black Hispanic Alumni Association (BHAA) honored Dr. M. Cecile Forte '75 and Mr. Miguel A. Pozo '94 for their contributions to the community in education and law, respectively. The BHAA Board also recognized 11 current Hofstra student leaders for their contributions to the campus and the Long Island community.

We thank Assistant Vice President for Development Meredith Celentano, who brought greetings on behalf of President Rabinowitz, and the University for its continued support of BHAA's efforts to fulfill the mission of mentoring students and engaging alumni.

This year's theme, "Keeping the Connection," alluded to recent activities and discussions involving BHAA alumni and current Hofstra students regarding job searches, personal and career development, and the legacy and future of several oncampus organizations and initiatives.

Hofstra University's Booster Alumni members, families and friends turned out to enjoy the annual miniature golf tournament on July 15 at Heartland Golf Park in Edgewood, Long Island. Participants of all ages enjoyed a morning of golf, raffles, refreshments, contests and prizes. Several hole-in-one winners won new cars (miniature, of course). The Booster Alumni would like to thank our hole sponsors and those who donated raffle prizes to make our event a success. A portion of the proceeds will support our endowed scholarship.

As football season approaches, we remind you to renew your membership. If you are a spirited Hofstra graduate who would like to become a member, call Valerie Anderson- Byrne '89, membership chairperson, at (631) 587-3840. On June 27 brothers and friends once again ventured out to Timber Point Country Club for the Sixth Annual Scholarship Golf Outing. Proceeds from the event – which amounted to $7,500 – will be directed to the Crown and Lance Alumni Support Program (CLASP).

CLASP is providing $2,500 in scholarship money to three C&L family members during the 2007-2008 academic year. Thanks in part to this year's outing proceeds, we are moving closer to reaching the goals of our Athletic Endowment Program Fund. That annual scholarship will eventually be directed to a male athlete attending summer session.

A great big thanks to everyone who participated in the outing, those who continue to join as annual members and those who have signed on as "Lifetime Members." Your collective support of our initiatives keeps us active, effective and a vibrant part of the Hofstra community.

Many of them have continued their involvement at Hofstra through their respective alumni associations. Our sorority was founded in 1938, and we'll be celebrating our 70th anniversary in 2008. Please let us know if you'd like to be on the planning committee. You can contact your DXD representative, Emily Schreiber, or the Office of Alumni Relations.

Hope to see you all at Homecoming, October 4 to 6!

The Annual 2007 Pershing Rifles Q-8 Company Dinner was held in March with more than 100 attendees. In addition to a great trick drill routine performed by Pershing Rifles fraternity, LTC William Abb, professor of military science and head of Hofstra's ROTC program, was inducted as an "Honorary Brother" and Rich Cacciato was honored as the "Alumnus of the Year." This dinner continues to be a great venue for our alumni to reconnect with Q-8 and to raise money for our ongoing scholarship initiatives.

The Q-8 alumni have enjoyed a busy 2007 thus far by attending the Hofstra ROTC Military Ball in May, supporting the active fraternity in adding four new members and raising money for Q-8 scholarships. More than $10,000 in scholarship funds has been raised by Q-8 alumni over the past two years, directly benefiting the Pershing Rifles fraternity. We are proud to say that we have more than 80 active, dues-paying members and more than 500 members total. We also welcomed our first flag officer: Army Colonel Patrick Higgins '82 was selected and promoted to brigadier general in June 2007.

We have started planning for the 2007 Long Island National Drill Competition, scheduled for November 17, 2007, at Uniondale High School. Our first competition held last October was a brilliant success, attracting more than 500 participants and spectators and featuring a dynamic performance by the U.S. Army Drill Team.

Please visit www.prq8alumni.com for updated news and information about the association's activities. Take advantage of the alumni directory to reconnect with pledge brothers and old friends. Please continue to pray for the safe return of all military personnel, especially Q-8 alumni serving in harm's way: Major David Barrett '93, Major Tobias Magan '94 and Gerard Sweet '06.
