


The School of Education and Allied Human Services announced the launch of an M.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies – Concentration in Higher Education, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership: School District Business Leadership (SDBL).
For the third time in four years, Hofstra University Hillel was named Student Group of the Year, 2006-2007, by Hofstra’s Student Government Association.
Journalism student Kim Saltmarsh took second place honors at The Hearst National Radio Broadcast News Awards for the 2006-2007 competition. The Hofstra junior was one of the youngest participants to place that high in the competition.
June 2 The Hofstra Arboretum was transformed into a playground for tree lovers of all ages as the campus hosted the New York State Arborists 13th Annual Tree Climbing Competition. June 9 and 10 Singer, actress and Hofstra alumna Lainie Kazan ’60 brought her onewoman musical show to the John Cranford Adams Playhouse for two concerts backed by an all-star musical trio. Ms. Kazan also co-taught the summer course “Acting for Television and Film” as part of the University’s Visiting Scholars Program.
June 14 Steven Tanger, president and chief operating officer of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc., was the keynote speaker at a luncheon for the Institute of Real Estate. The topic of his speech was “Factory Outlets – The New Channel of Distribution.”
June 15 Thirty-one female students from Roosevelt Junior/Senior School completed the Young Women’s Writing Project at Hofstra. This program invites students to work with the University’s Literacy Studies faculty on channeling their hopes, fears and thoughts about their future into poetry. The final meeting of the school year allowed the students to read samples of their creative writing to family, teachers and friends. The program is funded by Hofstra’s Reading/Writing Learning Clinic at the Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center and Planned Parenthood of Nassau County.
June 25 The 30th annual Hofstra Golf Open, honoring E. David Woycik, Jr., Esq. ’77, ’80, was held at the Old Westbury Country Club.
