I was very excited about being at Hofstra and the thought of being involved with the presidential debate. My involvement with the event began some time earlier, as I worked on Nassau News, a Hofstra student-led publication, and volunteered with the Office of University Relations.
As a student volunteer, I participated in putting together media swag bags, handing out media credentials, and assisting with Democracy in Performance, a daylong series of events that celebrated American history.
On the day of the debate, I arrived at Hofstra at 9 a.m., not only to avoid traffic, but also to absorb and experience this once-in-a-lifetime event. During the day, I did reporting and photography for Nassau News. WABC-TV’s Eyewitness News even came down to Dempster Hall’s NewsHub and broadcasted students’ involvement at Nassau News.
Throughout the day, I walked around campus watching the media interact with students. I then volunteered to work at the campus debate viewing parties at The Netherlands and Hofstra USA. I greeted and assisted the media, including FOX News Channel, UPN Channel 9, and FOX 5. I had the privilege to be on live television with Greta Van Susteren. This was such an amazing experience. However, my favorite moment of the whole experience was being in front of the debate hall shortly before the start of the debate. I wanted to see and do as much as I could so as to fully experience this historic night.
I will always remember being a part of the presidential debate. I have so much more pride as a Hofstra student and am so glad that I chose Hofstra to be my school.
