What a wonderful time we have been having at our various events. Sisters came out in droves for our 70th birthday celebration. As Hofstra’s oldest Greek organization, Alpha Theta Beta sisters were thrilled to celebrate 70 years of sisterhood. Fifty-eight AOB sisters from around the country, from as far as Minnesota and California, and current undergraduates gathered at the Maine Maid Inn in Jericho, NY, on November 17, the 70th birthday of the sorority.

A 100-slide photo presentation prepared by Ann Doxsey ’78 was presented at the event, and included pictures of pledge classes from 1936 to 2006 and many personal pictures taken by the sisters at past events such as Homecoming celebrations, Greek sings, murder mysteries, formals and other events throughout the years. Popular songs from the years provided a nostalgic backdrop.

The anniversary dinner concluded with the AOB song “Dear Sisters,” with linked arms, dimmed lights and the glowing candles of “three burning embers.” It was clear that the bonds of sisterhood have transcended time.

Included among the women who came to the Milleridge Inn in January for our post-holiday dinner were two sisters from the ’60s who hadn’t connected in decades!

Our “AOB Through the Years” event with the undergraduate sisters was held on February 26, and our second “Hofstra All Greek Reunion” on March 24 included the participation of many Greek alumni groups. We also gathered on May 16 for our annual May dinner.

Many AOB alumnae sisters have maintained a close working relationship with Hofstra throughout the years, including our very own Anita Ellis ’88, assistant dean of students/director of student activities.

Congratulations and Happy Birthday AOB! Sisters are encouraged to visit our Web site and to sign the Guest Book. Let’s hear what’s happening. Love and sisterhood!

A fairly large group of DXD alumnae met on February 28 at Jasmine, a lovely restaurant in Boca Raton, Florida. Through the networking efforts of many sisters, we had the largest DXD reunion ever in this part of the country. If you plan to relocate to southern Florida, please contact Deena Irwin Drandoff ’64 at (561) 395-8505.

DXD alumnae attended the All Greek Alumni Reunion on March 24 at Hofstra’s Greenhouse in the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center. We enjoyed mingling with alumni from the other Greek alumni associations.

Our Annual Day at the Races was held in September at Belmont Park, and raised more than $1,800 for the Ira Leibowitz Endowed Scholarship at Hofstra. Thank you to all who supported the event.

The Annual 2007 Pershing Rifles Q-8 Company Dinner & Silent Auction was held on Saturday, March 24, at the Plainview Holiday Inn. This dinner has been a great venue for our alumni to reconnect with Q-8 and to raise money for our ongoing scholarship initiatives.

Each year more and more PR alumni have come out to see what a great event this is, and we thank all those who have attended and displayed their support for Q-8.

The date for the next Q-8 Invitational Drill Competition has been changed to November 17, 2007. For those alumni who attended our first competition last October, you know it was a brilliant success, attracting 500 spectators and participants, with a dynamic performance by the U.S. Army Drill Team among other event highlights. We hope to see more Q-8 members at this year’s event. We encourage all Q-8 alumni to visit the Web site at www.prq8alumni.com for updated news and information on the association’s activities. Please take the time to review our alumni directory to contact old friends and help us locate brothers with whom we have lost contact. Reconnect with your pledge brothers and let’s give the missing guys the benefit of re-associating with Q-8 the same way you have!

Recent Alumni Efforts: For the first time, the Office of Alumni Relations organized mixers for recent graduates. In the fall, alumni living in New York City came together for an evening of fun, friendship and reconnecting with the Law School. The Office of Alumni Relations then hosted a similar mixer on Long Island in early winter. Each event attracted more than 40 people. Future opportunities to attend events geared toward recent graduates of the Law School are in the planning stages.

Regional Efforts: The Office of Alumni Relations has been incredibly busy visiting alumni across the country. The South Florida Chapter Alumni & Accepted Student Reception was held March 8, followed by the Los Angeles Chapter Alumni & Accepted Student Reception on March 15. This was the first time the offices of Alumni Relations and Enrollment Management co-sponsored events outside the New York City region. Both events were successful, and the Law School plans to reach out to more regional groups of alumni in the future.

Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner & Reunion Celebration: On March 29, 2007, Hofstra Law School recognized the diverse achievements of four outstanding alumni and celebrated reunions with the classes of 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997 and 2002. Robert M. Abrahams ’76 received the Exceptional Law School Service Award. Mr. Abrahams is a partner at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP. The Professional Excellence Award went to Judith D. Fryer ’75. She is a principal shareholder at Greenberg Traurig LLP. Salvatore J. Russo ’81, deputy counsel at the New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation, received the Outstanding Public Service Award. The Alumni Board also honored a recent graduate, Russell Hirschhorn ’01, with the new Emerging Leader Award. Mr. Hirschhorn is a senior associate at Proskauer Rose LLP. All proceeds raised at this event benefited the Law School Scholarship Fund, providing financial assistance to deserving students.

Golf Outing: Last year’s Celebrity Golf Outing was incredibly successful, and the Office of Alumni Relations is looking forward to hosting this year’s event on Monday, September 24, at the Garden City Country Club. Information is forthcoming, but save the date! For more information on these events and many others, please visit our newly redesigned Web site at law.hofstra.edu.
