The doors have already opened for Ms. Mondesir, a senior accounting major from Roosevelt, Long Island, Dean's List member, and intern at a private accounting office. She has accepted a position at PricewaterhouseCoopers upon graduation. She is also treasurer of the Nassau Association of Black Accountants.
"Thanks to the Hofstra scholarship I didn't have to work as much because I had some of the financial support I needed, so I could focus more on the academics."
Jessica Luis '06
Recipient of the Ann M. Mallouk Endowed Scholarship for Women in Science
For Ms. Luis of New Hampton, N.Y., a senior studying biochemistry, the cost of applying to medical schools would have been prohibitive without the help of the scholarship.
"Hofstra helped me to realize my dream of becoming a doctor through this scholarship, which gave me more time to devote to my studies and increased my chances of being accepted into medical school," she said.
Dianna Musca '07
Recipient of the John D. Miller Endowed Scholarship
Working almost full time as a supermarket bookkeeper, babysitting, and being a full-time student made college feel like a juggling act for this junior until the scholarship came her way.
"It's very difficult trying to balance everything and then trying to find time for yourself," said Ms. Musca of Massapequa Park, Long Island, a psychology major and sociology minor. "With the Hofstra scholarship, I was able to work less and to concentrate more on my studies."
After graduation, she plans to pursue a master's in social work.
