ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS LIST

Each year Hofstra alumni and friends contribute to scholarships to help today's students. For a list of scholarships through the Financial Aid Office, go to Donor Scholarships.


Several alumni affinity groups within the Hofstra University Alumni Organization provide scholarship support to students.These include:

Adelaide H. Sternfeld Alumni Organization Endowed Scholarship and

Hofstra University Alumni Organization Endowed Scholarship and

Class of 1951 “Continuing The Tradition” Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Offspring of Hofstra University Alumni. Scholarships based on financial need* and/or scholastic achievement and/or outstanding participation in extracurricular activities.

**For Class of 1951 Scholarship, preference is giving to undergraduate students who are grandchildren of the members of the Class of 1951.


Alpha Theta Beta Alumnae Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a qualified undergraduate student who is in at least their third semester as an active sister of the Sorority, and is based on scholastic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities.


Black/Hispanic Alumni Scholarship       

Black/Hispanic Alumni Scholarship Checklist

Criteria: Must be an undergraduate Hofstra University student of African-American, Caribbean-American, African or Hispanic descent who has completed 24 undergraduate credits at Hofstra University. Students will be selected on the basis of scholastic potential and demonstration of financial need*. Minimum of 2.5 grade point index based on a 4.0 system.


Booster Alumni Endowed Spirit Scholarship

Criteria: Scholarship awarded to a student that is a sophomore, junior or senior in standing at the start of the fall 2010 semester. The student must be an active member of one of the following groups for at least one academic year; Cheerleading Squad, Kickline/Dance Team, Pep Band, Twirling Corps or Mascots. Demonstrated school spirit, enthusiasm, and participation in the student spirit groups are required. Minimum of a 2.7 grade point average at the time of application.


Crown and Lance Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Must be an undergraduate student(s) that is a child, grandchild or great-grandchild of Crown and Lance Fraternity members. Scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement or potential. (Financial need is not required for this scholarship).


Dance Alumni Association/Lance Westergard Annual Dance Award

Criteria: This award will be granted to an outstanding Dance Major or Dance Education Major. Preference will be given to a student who has completed his or her junior year and intends to have a professional career in or related to Dance. The award may be applied to costs other than tuition including other academic expenses, fees, books, lab fees, etc.


Delta Chi Delta Sorority Alumnae Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Provides financial assistance to Delta Chi Delta sisters at Hofstra University or to the children or grandchildren, or other member of a Delta Chi Delta alumnae. Student(s) must have completed a minimum of two semesters at Hofstra University at the time of the application. A minimum of one award, and no more than four, will be given to the undergraduate and graduate students. Minimum of a 2.5 grade point average.


Dorothea Deitz Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to full-time undergraduate, NYS high school women who has been accepted to Hofstra University, enrollment in the Hofstra University Physical Education/Teacher Certification program and demonstrates financial need*.


Epsilon Sigma Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student(s) who is selected on the basis of academic achievement or potential, with preference given to an Epsilon Sigma fraternity member or descendant. This award may be used for costs other an tuition.


Florence M. Glaser Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to matriculated undergraduate or graduate students at Hofstra University who are honorably discharged veterans, their children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, selected on the basis of demonstrated economic need* or scholastic achievement or potential.


Frank G. Zarb School of Business Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: The award will be granted to a qualified School of Business student who will selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need as well as academic achievement and potential.


Gunnar H. Esiason Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded each year to an undergraduate Hofstra student who has or has had a personal challenge in dealing with cystic fibrosis, through his/her own condition or that of a family member, or whose demonstrated service and commitment to the prevention and cure of cystic fibrosis is exemplary. Senior high school students who have been accepted by Hofstra University, and meet the requirements are eligible to apply for this scholarship.


Gray Wig Alumni Scholarships - There are six (6) scholarships, but only one (1) application. 

Adele and William A.Stein Endowed Scholarship
Criteria:
Awarded to a qualified Theatre Arts major selected on the basis of academic achievement or potential and demonstrated financial need*.

Albert L. "Tank" Passuello Endowed Scholarship
Criteria:
Awarded to a qualified student majoring in Drama selected on the basis of demonstrated economic need* as well as scholastic achievement or potential.

Dolan Family Endowed Scholarship
Criteria:
Awarded to a deserving Junior or Senior, Theater Arts major selected on the basis of academic achievement or potential and demonstrated financial need*.

Gray Wig Endowed Scholarship
Criteria:
Awarded to a qualified Technical Drama student selected on the basis of demonstrated economic need* as well as scholastic achievement or potential.

Janet Fraser Rosano Endowed Scholarship
Criteria:
Awarded to a qualified student majoring in Drama or Music selected on the basis of demonstrated economic need* as well as scholastic achievement or potential.

Jim Fellman Endowed Scholarship
Criteria:
Awarded to a qualified student majoring in Music selected on the basis of demonstrated economic need* as well as scholastic achievement or potential.


Hofstra Pride Club (numerous scholarships)


Hofstra University Alumni Organization/George M. Bossert Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving graduate student(s) who works in the Office for Alumni Affairs.


Jeffrey C. Kraus Endowed Radio Award

Criteria: Awarded to undergraduate students based upon their talent in and commitment to radio. (Financial need is not required for this award). Candidate must be attending Hofstra University in the fall 2013 and be either a fully participating member of WRHU or a Communications Audio Major. A minimum of 2.5 grade point average is required.


John Cranford Adams Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Award to outstanding full-time students who have completed at least 58 semester hours; 50 hours must be in residence. This scholarship, established by the Hofstra Alumni Association to honor President Emeritus John Cranford Adams, may be renewed. Each recipient is named a John Cranford Adams Scholar.


Sigma Pi Alumni Joseph Ades Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to an undergraduate student in the Sigma Pi Fraternity International, with preference to a student that demonstrates financial need*. The student must have successfully completed 24 undergraduate credits at Hofstra. In addition, student must demonstrate outstanding commitment to Sigma Pi Fraternity and Hofstra University. A minimum of 2.5 grade point average is required.


School of Communication Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a deserving Hofstra University junior who has completed a total of 57 credits at Hofstra University, studying any field in Communication. Student will be selected on the basis of academic achievement or potential, and demonstrated financial need*.


Stephen B. Carlin/Walter W. Rudolph Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: The applicant is a direct descendent of an honorably-discharged "in country" Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Military Services, or

The applicant is, or is the direct descendent of, an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Military Services with "in-country" service in Afghanistan or Iraq since 1991, or

The applicant is, or is a direct descendent of, an honorably-discharged veteran of the U.S. Military Services, and

The applicant has demonstrated outstanding academic, co-curricular and community involvement, and/or financial need*.


Veterans Alumni Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to matriculated undergraduate or graduate students at Hofstra University who are honorably discharged veterans, their children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, selected on the basis of demonstrated economic need* or scholastic achievement or potential.


* Financial/economic need is calculated by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Hofstra University's school code is 002732. It will take approximately 3 weeks for the Office of Financial Aid to receive your FAFSA from the time you file it. For more information, contact the Office of Financial Aid at (516) 463-8000.
