Hempstead, New York (May 28) ? Hofstra University Head Women?s Basketball Coach Felisha Legette-Jack today announced the appointment of Jose Mori to the position of Assistant Women?s Basketball Coach. Mori joins a staff that also includes Brenda Milano, who was hired on May 14.
"We are thrilled to have Jose become a member of our staff and a part of the Hofstra community," said Legette-Jack. "Jose will be an integral part of our recruiting efforts and will also share in the development of our defensive strategies. He brings an abundance of energy and enthusiasm to our program and we are happy to have Jose and Christine join our family."
Prior to joining the Hofstra staff, Mori was an assistant coach at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, since August 2000. As a member of the Spiders staff, Mori was responsible for various aspects of recruiting, including the recruitment of international student-athletes. He also oversaw the defensive strategies implemented for each opponent during the season and worked with the guards and forwards during individual workouts. During his tenure at Richmond, the Spiders finished second in the Atlantic Ten West Division in 2002 and had three all-conference selections.
Before his stint at Richmond, Mori was the head girl?s basketball coach at Bald Eagle Area High School in Wingate, Pennsylvania, from August 1998 to May 2000. While there, he oversaw and coordinated all aspects of the seventh through ninth grade, junior varsity and varsity teams. The varsity team made its first playoff appearance in eight seasons under the direction of Mori. Mori has also coached at various levels of the Nittany Valley AAU program. As head coach of the 14 and under (1997), 15 and under (1998) and 16 and under (1999), Mori compiled an overall record of 45-11.
A 2000 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in kinesiology, Mori worked as a scout team player for the women?s basketball team under the direction of legendary women?s basketball coach Rene Portland.
Mori was married to the former Christine Portland in the summer of 2001.
