Bob Schwalb

Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach
Bob Schwalb is in his fourth year as Hofstra University head men's and women's golf coach. Schwalb came to Hofstra after a 35-year career as a physical education teacher in the Locust Valley School District on Long Island. He also served as a golf instructor in the Locust Valley Adult Education Program from 1985 through 2001 and was the Locust Valley High School varsity golf coach from 1999 through 2002. In 2001 Locust Valley captured a conference title with a perfect 12-0 record.
Schwalb, a former member of both the North Hills and the Brookville Country Clubs from 1960 through 1990 and a former member of the Board of Governors at Brookville Country Club from 1985 through 1989, also has a long and notable career as a high school and collegiate referee in both lacrosse and basketball. He has officiated high school basketball games for more than 30 years and college basketball contests for 10 years, but it was in lacrosse that he excelled as an official.
After three years of calling Nassau County high school lacrosse games from 1967 to 1970, Schwalb moved up to the college ranks in 1971 and officiated in 29 consecutive NCAA Division I Championship Tournaments including 13 straight NCAA semifinal or championship game selections as the referee from 1987 through 1999, and seven times (1982, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1997) as the referee in the National Championship game.
He also officiated in the first outdoor professional lacrosse league, the American Lacrosse League, in 1990 and 1991 as well as in the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (MILL), now the National Lacrosse League, from 1992 through 1995. Schwalb retired from lacrosse officiating in 1999 and was inducted into the Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2001.
He is a 1966 graduate of Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, with a bachelor's in physical education and a 1972 graduate of Long Island University-C.W. Post with a master's in guidance and counseling. As a senior at Adelphi, Schwalb received the Best Athlete Award for his play in tennis and squash. Bob and Barbara, his wife of 33 years, have three children - Heather (29), Craig (27) and Robert Jr., (18). The Schwalb family resides in Bayville, New York.
Jack Simes
Hofstra University
Assistant Men's and Women's Golf Coach
Jack Simes is in his fourth year as assistant men's and women's golf coach at Hofstra University. Simes came to Hofstra after a 34-year career as a coach, and math and technology teacher in Long Island's Valley Stream School District.
Simes brought 25 years of scholastic golf coaching experience to Hofstra, having served as the varsity golf coach at Valley Stream North and South High School for 15 years, and the Valley Stream Central High School district golf coach for 10 years. He also coached girls basketball and boys soccer while teaching in high school. Simes served as the head varsity girls coach at Valley Stream South High School for 15 years, and was the assistant varsity junior high boys soccer coach at Valley Stream North/South for 30 years.
Simes, who holds a bachelor's from the State University of New York at Oswego and a master's from Long Island University-C.W. Post, retired from teaching in 2001. Jack and his wife, Marie, have twin children - Jack Jr. and Victoria. The Simes family resides in Babylon, New York.
