PREPROFESSIONAL CLUBS
Accounting Society - The Accounting Society offers accounting majors the opportunity to interact with professors and to meet fellow accounting majors and recruiters from accounting firms. These meetings have many times resulted in internships or permanent positions with top accounting firms. The Accounting Society also provides help in preparing for the CPA exam.
African and Latino Students Interested in Communication Arts - ALSICA serves as a vehicle for African Americans, Latinos and other minority students to increase their awareness and understanding of the role that they have played in the communications field.
AIESEC International Business Society - AIESEC allows students the opportunity to acquire business, managerial and communication skills by working with other students on the local, national and international levels. The club also informs members of international issues through seminars and exchange programs.
Association of Preprofessional Health-Oriented Students - APHOS is dedicated to educating future health professionals in their prospective fields. The club places an emphasis on the professional or graduate school application process and/or helping members gain acceptance to graduate schools through guest speakers and programs. The club seeks to represent all aspects of the health field, including all preprofessional areas, physical therapy, osteopathy and chiropractic.
Athletic Trainers Club - The Athletic Trainers Club meets to discuss and learn about athletic injuries and the jobs, duties and responsibilities of athletic trainers. Some of the events sponsored are car washes and raffles at major Hofstra sporting events. The club also attends the National Athletic Training Association Convention. All student trainers and any students interested in learning about the field of athletic training are welcome.
Biology Club - The Biology Club provides a forum to unite all biology majors, minors, and anyone with a general interest in biology. The Biology Club exposes students interested in biology to many diverse career opportunities in biology through professional speakers and field trips.
Economics Association - The Economics Association encourages students to participate in the economic events that are planned by the association. Their goal is also to encourage student-faculty interaction. Furthermore, they plan debates, speeches and trips to increase student exposure to the field of economics.
Financial Management Association - FMA works to create a relationship between successful financial executives and professors in order to encourage the free exchange of ideas, techniques and advances in the field of financial management and business finance.
Geology Club - The Geology Club provides a forum for the dispersal of geological knowledge at Hofstra. Through trips to sites of geologic interest in the Northeast, members learn about topics in the subject of geology.
Hofstra Marketing Association - The Marketing Association is a member of the American Marketing Association and provides its members with opportunities to improve their marketing skills, to interact with professionals from local businesses, and to keep informed of the latest marketing trends. Members are given the opportunity to meet with other marketing majors, faculty and those interested in marketing.
Hofstra Prelaw Society - The Prelaw Society provides members with the opportunity to become better acquainted with the law, career opportunities, and admission policies or requirements for law schools. Club participation enables all students interested in attending law school to gain more knowledge about different fields of law, to meet people with similar interests, and to participate in very interesting and character-enhancing activities. Members can also join the International Law Fraternity.
Hofstra Tax Society - The Tax Society works to improve its members' tax-preparation skills. Annual events include participation in the VITA program, which provides tax-preparation services to the poor and elderly.
Information Systems Association - ISA serves as a support group to enhance the knowledge of information processing by interacting with members, faculty and representatives from the business world. Activities help members acquire skills to prepare them for the business information systems market.
Institute of Management Accountants - IMA brings together students and professionals in the accounting field. These meetings provide valuable networking opportunities for the future.
National Society for Black Engineers - NSBE is a club of African-American engineering students that focuses on developing, organizing and attending engineering functions. Members are given the opportunity to discuss concepts and meet with engineering students with similar interests.
National Association of Black Journalists - NABJ is an association for journalism students and media-related professionals that provides quality programs and services to benefit black journalists.
Rube Goldberg Club - The Rube Goldberg Club is centered around the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest held every year at Purdue University and sponsored by the local chapter Theta Tau (a professional engineering fraternity). The contest consists of the top engineering schools across the nation competing to design a machine 5x6x5 feet high to perform a preselected simple task in more than 20 steps. Rube Goldberg was a famous cartoonist who drew complex machines that accomplished simple everyday tasks, such as screwing in a light bulb or making a cup of coffee.
Women in Business - Women in Business offers its members a support network of opportunities open to women interested in business. The club hosts both female and male business professionals who offer their views on the role of women in business as well as occasional employment opportunities. The club encourages all business majors to join and begin to build that network of contacts that will be needed when graduation is near.
Women in Communications - The goals of Women in Communications are to unite members for the purpose of promoting the advancement of women in all fields of communications, to recognize distinguished achievements, to promote high professional standards throughout the industry, and also to act in a networking capacity.
Young Entrepreneurs Society (YES) - The Young Entrepreneurs Society educates students about what it is like to own and operate a small business. YES provides students with tools and information about writing a business plan and the opportunity to network with local entrepreneurs.
