Kellet KD-1 prototype with a trial load of mail on May 19, 1939
on a street in front of the Department of commerce in Washington.
Its flight to Hoover Airport helped Eastern Airlines win a contract
for regular service in Philadelphia which operated between July
6, 1939 July 5, 1940. The KD-1 was the first direct-control
Autogiro to go into production in the United States.
