Operation Downtown Series: "Social Media: Beyond the Hype...What's Really Working"

This program is designed to assist small business owners and is sponsored by Hofstra University's Scott Skodnek Business Development Center and Capital One Bank.   A series of three free seminars is planned during the academic year focusing on topics that provide skills to business owners to assist them with new marketing strategies, increasing revenue and the customer base.  The next seminar on April 10 will feature keynote speaker Mitch Tobol, partner at CGT Marketing and social media expert.  Mr. Tobol will

QuickBooks Certificate Program

Learn skills to....

  • Create a new QuickBooks company
  • Modify the preset chart of accounts to suit individual needs
  • Add/edit information to company lists
  • Write QuickBooks checks and assign amounts to specific accounts
  • Work with asset and liability accounts in QuickBooks
  • Enter bills into QuickBooks accounts payable
  • Pay bills
  • Invoice customers
  • Receive payments from customers and make bank deposits
  • Open and use registers for any QuickBooks balance sheet accounts
  • Reconcile a QuickBooks checking and credit card account
  • Track credit card transactions
Basic computer skills required.  $275 registration fee includes materials.

Entrepreneurial Assistance Program
BE YOUR OWN BOSS - START AND EXPAND YOUR OWN BUSINESS
Join us and explore the opportunity of starting and expanding your own business. Workshops will provide you with the "nuts and bolts" skills required to operate and grow a successful business. You will also receive training and counseling that will enable you to complete a business plan. An Entrepreneurship Certificate may be earned by completing the following three components:

  • Financing Opportunities
  • Financial Management/Excel
Mentoring (Business Participation)
  • One-to-one counseling with business owners sharing their expertise and experiences as entrepreneurs.

Submission of a Business Plan

Participants will have the opportunity to compete in a BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION sponsored by Capital One Bank.  Prizes up to $1,100 for winning business plans!


Since February 1991 more than 1100 entrepreneurs have enrolled in the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program. Their businesses were in the planning stage or already in existence and ready for expansion.

$495 fee includes manual and all materials (scholarships and installments available).
