Message from the VP

Welcome to the Web site for the Scott Skodnek Business Development Center (BDC) at Hofstra University. I am glad you have taken the time to visit our site.

Located on the beautiful campus of Hofstra University in Long Island, New York, the mission of the BDC is to help businesses, public entities and community organizations on Long Island and in the metropolitan area succeed in their various enterprises, while simultaneously enhancing the opportunities for Hofstra University and its students.

The BDC is a multidisciplinary center offering human and technological resources for business support and education, as well as community service. It also supports government agencies in their own endeavors and in their efforts to assist businesses in the metropolitan area.

Before coming to Hofstra, I served as the Supervisor of the Town of Hempstead on Long Island, N.Y. for five years. The Town of Hempstead is the largest town in the United States with a population larger than six states, a budget of over $300,000,000 and 2,100 employees. A graduate of William & Mary College and Law School, I am excited about working with the business community, public entities and community organizations to foster a working relationship that will benefit both the University and the local communities in the metropolitan area. I believe the BDC is pivotal in assisting the business community and government in our region to succeed. The BDC has the benefit of having all of the resources of Hofstra University at its disposal. Combining the most respected members of academia and an impressive student body with our business community and governmental agencies, the BDC is poised to address a host of complex issues which confront a broad spectrum of business enterprises.

We also work closely with federal, state and all levels of local government to create economic development.

Whether you want to start a new business, expand and/or diversify your current business or develop new skills to help you run your business, we have a program that will fit your needs.

I invite you to take a moment to read about what the administrative staff is doing at the BDC. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact the BDC at (516) 463-7214.
