Mission Statement

Laureen Harris, President

The mission of the Institute of Real Estate at Hofstra University is to promote professionalism and to become a trusted source for real estate education, mentoring and networking for the real estate industry on Long Island by:

  • holding conferences and symposiums
  • offering educational programs
  • issuing publications.

As the real estate industry becomes increasingly complex, we believe that the desired levels of professionalism and practice can be achieved through an affiliation with Hofstra University.

The Institute complements the University’s proven ability to combine academic excellence with pragmatic reality and supports Hofstra as the dominant source on Long Island for authoritative information on all aspects of real estate as well as quality post-graduate opportunities.

Real estate will continue to be an important economic driver for the economy of Long Island and the metropolitan area. The future of the area will depend on our ability to compete regionally. In order to compete, we will need to rethink the processes necessary to redevelop and develop land as well as our patterns of development and land use.

The Institute will serve as a venue for the study, discussion and debate of these important issues.
