Training Program for Municipal Planning and Zoning Officials

In 2006, New York State passed a law to establish minimum training requirements for municipal planning and zoning officials. The law took effect January 1, 2007 and requires a minimum training standard of four hours each year for members of county, town, city and village planning and zoning boards.

In response to this requirement, The William F. Breslin Center for Real Estate Studies at Hofstra University held a free training course at Hofstra on Monday, September 24, 2007 from 5:15 to 9:15 P.M. in Room 246 of the Business Development Center. Michael White, Esq., the Executive Director of the Long Island Regional Planning Board did a presentation on the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). Andrew Freleng, Long Island Section Director, N.Y. - Metro Chapter, American Planning Association, David Blumenfeld, V.P., Blumenfeld Development Group, Steven J. Giordano, P.E. LEED and Cameron Engineering & Associates, LLP delivered presentations on Green Design and Building. Ashira Ostrow, Assistant Professor of Law, Hofstra Law School, served as moderator for the panel.
