FAQ

Q: Did the organization change its name?
A: Yes, as of January 1, 2007. We were formerly known as Hofstra USA Productions.

Q: How can I purchase tickets for your shows?
A: There are four methods:

  1. You can call the Hofstra Box Office at 516-463-6644 and purchase the tickets on a MasterCard or Visa for an additional $3.00 convenience fee per order. The Box Office is open Monday - Friday from 11:00 am - 3:45 pm.
  2. You can visit the Hofstra Box Office in the John Cranford Adams Playhouse lobby and pay with cash or check. The Box Office is open Monday - Friday from 11:00 am - 3:45 pm.
  3. You can mail in a check, made payable to Hofstra University and mail to Playhouse Box Office, 118 Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY 11549. Please enclose a business-sized, self-addressed, stamped envelope with your order.
  4. Purchase tickets online

Q: How can I find about auditions for future shows?
A: Cast calls/audition notices are posted on the local theater information website, debsweb (www.debsliweb.homestead.com) and ads usually appear in Back Stage, as well as on our webpage. Additionally, audition information flyers are usually available in all Nassau and Suffolk county libraries.

Q: Can anyone addition?
A: Yes. Auditions are open to the public. All levels of experience are welcome.

Q: Do you pre-cast shows?
A: We have, on occasion, and if we are planning to do so, we make this fact clear in all our audition announcements. We have also worked with Equity guest artists, performers and directors.

Q: Are paid positions available?
A: Yes. We do provide payment to directors, choreographers, musical directors, designers, etc., as well as musicians. At this time we are not able to pay actors.

Q: Can I volunteer to work with Hofstra Entertainment?
A: Yes, and we encourage those interested in participating in some way to please contact us.

Q: Does Hofstra Entertainment accept submissions for new and/or original works?
A: Yes. Throughout our history we have 'entertained' submissions and have successfully produced several world premieres, east coast premieres, and Long Island premieres as well.

Q: How many shows does Hofstra Entertainment produce each season/year?
A: The number varies from year to year. However we traditionally present a January show as well as three summer productions. During the rest of the year we may produce an additional three to six presentations.

Q: Is Hofstra Entertainment associated with the Hofstra Department of Drama and Dance?
A: Yes. But we are also associated with the Hofstra Cultural Center, the Music Department, Alumni, and the Office of the Provost as well. Ultimately, we cooperate with as many areas and academic departments within the university as we can.
