The Hofstra Gray Wig presents Rhapsody in Gershwin

A concert celebrating the music of George and Ira Gershwin. Featuring classic Gershwin hits such as "But Not for Me," "Summertime," "I Got Rhythm," and "Someone to Watch Over Me" Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Wild Quintet and jazz and blues vocalist Pamela Rose make a compelling case for the enduring contributions of women to America's treasure trove of popular music, from Alberta Hunter to Peggy Lee, in this multi-media showpiece that shines a light on the forgotten contributions of the prolific, feisty and talented women of Tin Pan Alley (1920-1950). In celebration of Women's History Month. Tickets: $20, $18 senior citizen (65+) or matriculated non-Hofstra student.

United States Premiere – Festival Brass Band

Location: John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus

Guest Conductor: David Ramael, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Activities, Hofstra University

Festival Brass Band, under the direction of renowned trumpet player Manu Mellaerts, presents an exciting program of standard works for brass band. Festival Brass Band is one of the premier brass bands in Europe and is known for its unrivaled virtuosity and richness of sound. Including the United States premiere of Sinfonietta No. 1 by Johan de Meij, who will be a special guest at this concert performance. Additional works to be performed include the premiere of Harry James: Trumpet Concerto, William Tell Overture, Dragonheart, and Windows of the World.

Featuring The Base Hits Quintet and special guest vocalists. We'll take you out to the ballgame with some of baseball's greatest musical hits, including "The First Baseball Game" (originally sung by Nat King Cole), "Joltin' Joe DiMaggio," "Baseball Boogie," "Van Lingle Mungo," "Meet the Mets," "Jake, Jake, The Yiddisha Ball Player," "Talkin' Baseball," "Say Hey" (Willie Mays), and "Heart," from the Broadway musical Damn Yankees, to name just a few. Performance times are 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday; 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday. *Presented in conjunction with the Hofstra Cultural Center conference 50 Years of The New York Mets. This innovative chamber group zigzags through countries, time periods and stylized dances: from classical to flamenco, 1950s Brazilian sambas, modern day Argentine tangos to jazz classics, and world music as well as commissioned works written for the quartet.
