"Broken Pictures is an exhibition of contemporary art by two active painters, one from Houston, Texas, Mark Flood; the other from New York, New York, David West. Both were born in the latter decades of the 20th century; both experienced the second jazz age of the 20th century (if you assume the 1920s was the first), and both have had to confront the infamous question of the quite late 20th century, "is painting dead?" Well, their work shows that painting is not dead, not even moribund, just differently challenging than the more formalistic traditions of mid-century Modernism."
David Christman, Director, Hofstra Museum
