Animation Art and Paintings by Faith Hubley, John Hubley and Emily Hubley
June 7 - July 22, 1999
Emily Lowe Gallery
The Hubley Studio has created some of the most innovative and challenging animation in the history of the art form. Beginning with the partnership of John & Faith Hubley, and continuing with Faith Hubley and Emily Hubley, they have received countless awards (including three Oscars) and international acclaim. Using dazzling visuals, avant-garde music and symbolism, their films have explored a wide range of subjects including creativity, the family, and our place in the universe.
This exhibition, guest curated by Dr. Sybil DelGaudio of Hofstra University's School of Communication, provides a rare opportunity to explore the usually unseen stages in the creation of an independent animated film. Focusing on story boards, animation art and paintings, the exhibition suggests the rich panoply of media that precede, contribute to and follow the process of making an animated film.
In January 1998, the Hubleys (Faith, John and Emily) were honored at Museum of Modern Art in New York with a film retrospective and a gallery show of art from their films.
