By the Hand of Jean Cocteau includes ceramics, drawings and posters created by Jean Cocteau. The art work is part of the Hofstra Museum's Permanent Collection. Eight books from the The Howard L. and Muriel Weingrow Collection of Avant-Garde Art and Literature at Hofstra University are also included. The exhibition is curated by Professor David Pushkin of New College at Hofstra University.

This display is one of three exhibitions to complement the conference, A Pen of Light: The Films of Jean Cocteau, presented by the Hofstra Cultural Center, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy of New York, October 1-3, 2003.
