Generation Jets - Training camp at Hofstra

EVENT CONCEPT - Generation Jets Fest is located at the site of the team's summer training camp on Hofstra's North Campus. Each day, fans of all ages will visit to see the team practice, participate in special activities including the on-field "Touchdown Tuesday's presented by Delta" and "Punt, Pass & Kids presented by Dunkin Donuts" (Wednesdays), receive special giveaways and have a chance to meet the team and other fans. A schedule of events through August 24th is available at the Hospitality Service Center, Room 112 Student Center or the Welcome Tent at the event, and admission and parking are free of charge.
CHALLENGES - Finding students who truly want to interact with and welcome our fans. Generation Jets Fest is about making a memorable experience for the visitors. There is a method of counting numbers of visitors, to judge the success of the venture, which involves using `people counters' (handheld clickers) at both entrances to the stands and to the adjoining festival area at different times of the day. Another challenge is control of overzealous fans, which is important for the smooth flow and kid-friendly environment.
TECHNIQUES - A bookmark card was created to give each visitor a portable view of the schedule of events. One side lists the dates of special events and giveaways and practice times and dates.Because schedules are subject to change, the card includes the Jets Fan Line is 516- 560-8288 and website www.newyorkjets.com for up-to-date details.Corporate sponsors (including North Fork Bank, Delta Airlines, Dunkin Donuts, Modells, the New York Post, Slomin's, State Farm Insurance, and Toyota) schedule special events and giveaways, and provide hospitality for their invited guests on the sidelines.Giveaways have included Chad Pennington Bobble Head dolls, trading cards, mini-footballs, posters and backpacks, as well as pencils, key chains, and stickers.
STUDENT PARTICIPATION - If you're interested in becoming a Jets' intern, you should email nyjinternships@nyjets.com or call 516-560-8100 for more information.
EVENTS COMING UP - August 22-24, 2005 will be Jets Fan Appreciation Days with giveaways such as Jets soft-sided coolers, trading cards, and CD car visors. Visit www.generationjets.com for all youth related items, including our emmy award winning Generation Jets TV Show, Generation Jets Club and Youth Football.

On The Way to the USA with Into-Exchange, with Ben Schreimenacha

    Into-Exchange study abroad program

EVENT CONCEPT - About 400 students will come to Hofstra for an `orientation,' designed to strengthen language skills, help students find other exchange students to stay in touch with, and have some time to explore another setting outside of their home. We strive to assist them in coping with the many social or cultural differences that they will encounter.
CHALLENGES - Organizing travel for students is a two to three month long process with several different (car/train/plane/bus) parts of any one person's trip. We organize five camps, each five days long with 60-100 attendees.Costs tend to be higher in the summer months, and arrivals and departures are from different airports at all hours of the day and night. The Hofstra Office of Conference Services provides us with assistance in our living complex for a three day period.
TECHNIQUES - We rely on Hofstra as ourlocal `coordinator' in this area for the orientation, to assist us with the smooth transition for our students and to coordinate travel, campus arrangements, and even trips to the beach and New York City. Another technique that works well for us is to have a hierarchy of people that will talk with each other directly to solve problems. Our leaders are there to direct students when needed.
STUDENT PARTICIPATION- If students know of host families, or would like to interact with our students, we would like to hear from them. The ability of our students to learn from students here in the New York area presents an awesome opportunity! We also have programs available for American students to go abroad for either six months or one year.
EVENTS COMING UP - Any one interested in being a part of this program as a student, host or a coordinator or to learn more about becoming an exchange student is welcome to visit the Into- Edventures website. Please click here for more information.

Let's GO to the AMA National Collegiate Conference, with Chris Mayo

Hofstra Marketing Association - with AMA

EVENT CONCEPT - Hofstra's American Marketing Association (HAMA) sent eight representatives to the American Marketing Association's (AMA) National Collegiate Conference, sponsored by Good Year Tires, in April 2005 at the Sheraton Hotel, New Orleans. HAMA, under the leadership of president Chris Mayo, created an exhibit entitled Rev-Up Your Marketing Career, based on a marketing plan- one of the six award winners!- we designed to sell Good Year Tires to Hofstra students. The event was attended by students from across the country as well as association members who were professionals in the field.
CHALLENGES - Preparing for the conference and creating the exhibit was a learning experience the club members. They learned how to present ideas in a professional way and in the exact format given, and to adhere to strict guidelines. "We learned that to compete we had to value and respect the format we were given."
TECHNIQUES - In creating our plan and the exhibit, we designed a game show using a map of the United States. The purpose of the game was to get the Hofstra Blue Beetle to New Orleans. To view pictures of the exhibit click here. There were four contestants who had to buzz in to answer questions about marketing and the American Marketing Association. The first person to buzz in got to answer the question. The game show drew an audience as people passed by to stop and take a look at our exhibit.
STUDENT PARTICIPATION -New members with an interest in getting experience and meeting students with similar interests are encouraged to join by contacting President Chris Mayo via email at Hofstramkt@hotmail.com. The club also offers promotional and other marketing help to other clubs and organizations who want to promote their events at Hofstra!
EVENTS COMING UP - HAMA meets every other week on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
