BulletHelpful Hints from the Office of Event Management

  • Types of room arrangements - Hofstra uses industry-standard setups in our flexible meeting rooms. (Please note: Setups in classrooms cannot be modified.) Use the following suggested seating styles. Click on the link for a sample diagram of each seating style.
    1. Theater Style. For large sessions or short lectures that do not require extensive note-taking or programs that feature a speaker or demonstration with audience participation.
    2. Classroom Style. For medium- to large-size lectures, workshops and seminars. Allows guests to spread out materials or take notes. Seats up to three at a six-foot table or two to allow three feet of workspace per person.
    3. Banquet Style. Using round tables for meals or small group discussions. A six-foot round seats 10-12 people. In some cases, when there is a need for additional seating, a six-foot rectangle (x 30 inches) can be used with 6 seats around.
    4. Conference or Hollow Square Style. For interactive discussion or note-taking, where the group is working together, or a small group of any kind.
