Student Computing Services hires students to be trained as Computer Lab Student Assistants. Those interested should fill out applications which are available in the SCS Office, 106C Calkins Hall (at the rear of the Calkins computer lab).
SCS Student Assistants (SAs) are responsible for the operation and security of Hofstra's two open-access labs (Hammer, Calkins), the computer repair center, the Residential computing office as well as providing general computer support for students.
SAs work a minimum of 12 hours per week. Hours are available between 8:00 A.M. and Midnight, 7 days a week. Shifts range from one to six consecutive hours.
Working as a Computer Lab Student Assistant is a unique experience that involves:
- Learning about computer hardware, software and operating systems.
- Problem solving.
- Customer service.
New SAs receive preparatory training. There is ongoing training for ALL SAs.
The basic requirements are:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Desire to learn more about computers.
- Enthusiasm to face new CHALLENGES.
- A working knowledge of computers and/or one or more of Hofstra's computer systems is a plus.
The starting salary is $7.50 per hour!
