AAPTE - Personal Training Education and Nationally Accredited Certification
Education (AAPTE) formed an alliance with Hofstra University Continuing Education, in order to set the standard by which theoretical and practical knowledge was disseminated - before accreditation was even a concern for personal training certification organizations. The AAPTE's goal was to establish a course of study that would exceed industry standards; encompass theoretical and practical learning; minimize liability for trainers, clients and club owners; and maximize the outcome of the trainer-client relationship.
The personal trainer course is designed for the individual seeking competency in health, fitness and exercise instruction; performing fundamental health and fitness assessments; and designing and implementing fitness programs for the healthy population.
The course is also beneficial for those planning to sit for the AAPTE CPFT-HFI Exam.* The program features both practical (hands-on training) and theoretical educational modules. All textbooks and study materials are included in the course fee, as well as one optional AAPTE CPFTHFI Exam sitting.
During the course, students are provided with the most relevant scientific information regarding the assessment, design and implementation of safe, effective and efficient personal exercise instruction. An optional one-hour review session is offered before each class. The course concludes with a three-hour summary review.
Students receive 18 hours of practical hands-on resistance training biomechanics at a private training center. Practical biomechanical principles and methods of analyzing and teaching resistance training exercises are presented and practiced.
In addition, practical pre-exercise screening assessment skills, such as body composition analysis, blood pressure, and resting heart rate measurement are taught. The 12-hour prerequisite anatomy** curriculum is designed specifically for those seeking a better understanding of the human body as it relates to exercise. It introduces the fundamental knowledge related to anatomical terminology, and joint structure and function of the musculoskeletal system.
