Joan & Donald E. Axinn Library,
Room 032
Prof.
Geri Solomon, Assistant Dean of Special Collections
The Hofstra University Archives, which serves as the
repository for the historical records of Hofstra University, is located
on the lower floor of the Joan & Donald E. Axinn Library. Its primary purpose is to document the history of
the University and to provide such documentation to administrators,
alumni, faculty, staff, students, and other members of the University
community. The Archives also assists scholars and other legitimate researchers
who seek to evaluate the impact of the University and its activities
on the history of American social, cultural, and intellectual development.
Due to the unique nature of archival holdings, the material in the Hofstra
University Archives is noncirculating and the researcher may only use
the materials in the Archives Reading Rooms. The Archives maintains
its own indexes, guides, and shelf lists to collections, and the staff
will assist the researcher in choosing materials from the collection.
The Archives reserves the right to withhold permission to photocopy
or access materials for the protection of fragile items or the confidentiality
of restricted materials.
