ON SECOND THOUGHT: THE ART AND PRACTICE OF TEACHING STUDENT WRITERS TO REVISE

Wednesday, March 21
11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
246 East Library Wing

Last spring semester Dr. Frank Gaughan, Assistant Professor of Writing Studies and Composition, did a very well-received CTSE program on strategies for responding to student writing effectively and efficiently.

As a follow-up to that program, Dr. Gaughan and Dr. Douglas Friedlander,Director of Writing and Assessment, will discuss long-standing debates about teaching revision: Should one aim to improve the writer or the writing? What effect does teacher commentary have on students’ efforts to revise? Attendees will analyze examples of student revisions; identify strategies for building revision into writing assignments; and review the use of word processing tools such Microsoft Word’s compare documents feature, Google Docs’ revision history, Wordle, and Juxta.
Light refreshments will be served.
Please RSVP to Jeanne Racioppi at x36221 or via e-mail by Friday, March 16.
