ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT APPLYING FOR A SPECIAL TEACHING LEAVE?
The Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence presents
Professors Altenberg, Henry, Longmire, Torff, and Whitton were recipients of Special Teaching Leaves during the 2008-2009 academic year. In this program they will present the research they did during their leaves. They will also answer questions about the application process for receiving a Special Teaching Leave.
Dr. Altenberg will discuss the book she completed during her leave.
Dr. Henry will present one day in the final itinerary/syllabus for a study-abroad course, demonstrating the course's synthesis of pedagogical principles, literature, and place.
Dr. Longmire will describe her examination of the Odyssey model of study-abroad education and new models of international education.
Dr. Torff will review the latest research findings concerning teachers’ inclinations to provide challenging curricula for high-advantage students but less challenging curricula for low-advantage ones. He will offer suggestions for structuring teacher education to solve this problem.
Dr. Whitton will explain her grant proposal for an NSF secondary mathematics teacher-enhancement grant and her book chapter about teaching geometry in Italy.
Lunch will be served.
Please RSVP to Jeanne Racioppi at x36221 or via e-mail by Oct. 9.
