Literacy today is comprised of intertwined elements of information literacy, media literacy, and technology literacy. Throughout their lives, our students will be expected to find, evaluate, annotate, use, and create digital and visual materials as well as text. Children learn the skills necessary for these activities without realizing they are learning them, similar to the way they learn language. Our students may question education's relevance in this digital era if their classes at Hofstra are technology-free. Let's begin the job of formulating answers to their questions and share ideas on teaching digital literacies in our curricula.

Following the event, faculty will be invited to continue the discussion online using Blackboard, Hofstra’s online learning system.
