Informal Discussion Sessions

Informal discussions are sponsored on a regular basis. These discussions encourage ongoing interaction and exploration among faculty members on issues related to teaching, learning, and scholarship. Among other things, topics have dealt with:

  • philosophical underpinnings of pedagogy
  • bias related concerns
  • nontraditional teaching techniques
  • study groups
  • encouraging class participation
  • grading and testing concerns
  • course and teacher ratings
  • team teaching
  • technology and instruction
  • faculty concerns in the '90s
  • classroom discipline
  • the impact of the changing student body on teaching
  • classroom atmosphere

In addition, several campus series (e.g., Enduring Questions Series, Great Books Series) were initially launched under the sponsorship of the CTSE.
