Public Speaking Consultant

The Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence is pleased to offer a new service to all faculty. In addition to our consultants in assessment/program evaluation, quantitative analysis, and English editing, the CTSE now has a public speaking consultant. Dr. Cindy D. Rosenthal, associate professor in the School of University Studies, will do confidential classroom observations, answer questions, and give advice about teaching presentations and other public speaking situations.

Dr. Rosenthal has taught acting and interdisciplinary courses in performance at Hofstra University's School for University Studies since 1998, as well as courses in theater studies for Hofstra's New College and courses in women's studies for Hofstra's HCLAS. She received her Ph.D. in performance studies from New York University in 1997, her M.A. from NYU's Gallatin Division in literature in performance (1988), and her B.A. in English and drama (magna cum laude) from Tufts University in 1976. Dr. Rosenthal has contributed essays to The Drama Review, Theatre Survey, and Women and Performance, and co-edited Restaging the Sixties, with James Harding for University of Michigan Press (forthcoming 2006). Along with her teaching and scholarship, Dr. Rosenthal regularly directs productions at New College, and as a founding member of the Bread Loaf Acting Ensemble, since 1986, she has conceived, performed, directed, and produced original works in Middlebury, Vermont, and Juneau, Alaska.
