Teaching Resources and Other Materials

Many materials are available to help instructors focus on and improve the teaching and learning environment in their classrooms. See the following links as a starting point in this exploration. Suggestions for additional categories and information can be submitted by e-mail.

Other Hofstra Scholarship Support

Hofstra University has many other offices and programs that offer scholarship support. Some of these are listed on the Other Hofstra Scholarship Support page of this site.

Teaching and Learning Centers in the United States

Many colleges and universities have established teaching and learning centers. Although the specific missions of each center and institution may differ, all attempt in some way or another to foster teaching and learning excellence. Many of these centers have web sites that are wonderful repositories of useful materials and information. Hofstra University's Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence is continually updating its list of web sites for teaching and learning centers in the United States. Please e-mail information about any changes and additions.

Teaching and Learning Centers around the World

In addition to the many teaching and learning centers in the United States, more and more universities around the world are also establishing these types of centers. The following sites maintain lists of centers around the world:

University of Kansas, Other Teaching Centers
Dalhousie University, Instructional Development and Technology Sites Worldwide

Scholarship and Research Support Centers at Other Universities

Many colleges and universities in the United States and in other countries have institutional centers that in some manner support and foster research and other forms of scholarship, often as part of a larger mission. Some of these may be more relevant and of greater interest to Hofstra faculty than others. A sampling of these are listed, with their websites.

Technology Resources

Technology is presenting new and exciting challenges to education and many discussions and issues now center on how to effectively integrate technology into the learning and instructional enterprise. In addition to the CTSE's resources, consult the selected list of instructional technology sites for ideas, demonstrations, sample materials, and discussions of the issues.

Teaching Related Journals

There are journals that are devoted exclusively to pedagogical issues whereas other journals periodically include articles and materials that are related to teaching. For a listing of teaching related periodicals see:
